My son, Zeke, and me at Yellowstone River Falls in Yellowstone, Wyoming, June, 2017!
10/13/17 Dear Lions Team members,
As we are finally getting into our routines here at school, please ask to see your child's homework folder, binder, and plan books as it will keep you connected to what is happening in his/her classes. Remember, please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions that pop up. We are open to having conferences at any time.
Also, as we are settling in, Mary and I want to remind you that we do offer after school help. There is an after school bus provided on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. If your student is struggling with keeping up with his/her work this is a perfect opportunity to get the help your student may need, even if it is just to organize and regroup after school. We ask that you give us 24 hour notice to ensure our availability as we do schedule meetings with parents and colleagues after school
In class we have finished or will be finished reading There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar. This book will become our "anchor" book when we discuss theme, summaries, plot, and characterization throughout the year. We will focus in on vocabulary of the book and reflect on what we learned by reading this book aloud.
Our next focus will be on writing a personal narrative in class. The topic will be the Living History field trip. Stay tuned!
All students should have turned in their Book Jacket project by now. If your child has not, please consider having your student stay after school to complete this project as it was due October 10th.
Most students have chosen their October mystery book. If they have not done so, please help them along their way.
In social studies we have been reading about George Washington and continue looking at primary and secondary sources. We will be having a quiz next Thursday on what is a primary and what is a secondary source.
Hope this information helps everyone! Suzi Young 5th grade teacher email@example.com
